2008 Subaru Forester
2008 Subaru Forester questions and answers
Q: What are these extra covers in my 2008 Subaru Forester for?
They are irregularly shaped and have elastic loops on the corners.
A: Look in the back behind the last row of seats. You should have some hooks there the the loops will fit over. They are cargo nets or cargo covers that help hold things in place.
Q: I have a 2008 Subaru Forester. After driving and parking the Engine smells?
It smells like hot rubber, or a faint smell of something burning. It's not overbearing, faint really .Car has 17000 miles on it. All the gauges are normal, including the temperature, I'm getting good gas mileage, and car runs smooth as can be. Any ideas of what this may be? Am I being paranoid?
A: there is maybe some silicon or some glue that is getting hott and starting to smell and its ok its nothing dangerous
Q: New 2008 Subaru Forester - is this a cool, posh car in States?
Or medium, or what? For everybody, or for the rich? 2.5X Sports Turbocharged, Auto transmission, moonroof, Newport blue. what is "moonroof"?
A: It's a sports-utility vehicle intended to be more of a practical family car. If you want a "posh" SUV then you probably want to look at luxury brands like Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Lexus, Lincoln, Land Rover, etc.
Q: Does anyone know the name of the song played in the 2008 Subaru Forester commercial? It's a very nice song!
I just saw the commercial, and I absolutly love the song. As far as I know, this commercial can also be seen at http://www.subaru.com/shop/model_consideration.jsp?model=FORESTER. In the picture at the top, just under the car, click the text for "See the 2008 Forester in action. Watch the new TV ad". There are no words to the song, and in some parts you can hear whistling. It's a very cool song, and I hope someone out there knows the name! If anyone knows please help! Thank you!
A: The best way to get the answer is at www.adtunes.com - just use their search feature and type in "Subaru", and/or "Forester", and/or a key visual idea from the commercial, e.g. "squirrel", "dancing", "aliens", etc. Make sure you set the search time frame to the max - one year, I think - so you don't miss any possible older results. Add details if you can, like a snippet of the lyrics. Other choices are sites called www.splendad.com or www.duncans.tv. For UK ads, try: www.whatsthatcalled.co.uk or www.whatsthattune.co.uk Hope that helps - the answer should be on one of these! It's possible, however, that it might have been created specially for the ad.
Q: What should I buy: 2008 Subaru Forester AWD or a 2008 Jeep Compass AWD, and why? No offroading, just travel.?
A: jeeps are very unreliable Subaru is king of AWD been making them for years.
Q: What should I purchase: a 2008 Saab, 2008 Passat or 2008 Subaru Forester?
Taking into account safety, reliability and ease of parking in that order Sorry I meant Saab 9-3
A: Safety - Saab Reliability - Subaru Ease of parking - Saab Value - Subaru I have owned two Saabs, driven three Passats, two Foresters and a few dozen Saabs (everything from a 900 to a 9000 and too many 9-5s to count and a handful of 9-3s). Parking is definitely the easiest on the Saab. I remember kissing a bumper a few times in the first Passat I drove. There's no way to easily gauge how close you are to the things behind you. Aside from its ease of parking and relatively FAST engine, the Saab comes in second on that list. The Passat is third. The VW isn't quick or particularly reliable. The Saab is going to be completely hassle-free for three years and then things will start getting weird. Electrical things, of course. Nothing serious. But the Passat has a history of being erratic from the start and expensive to keep fixing. The Subaru will most likely be a worry-free vehicle. Excellent, excellent AWD grip on the road and obviously the most cargo space of any of your choices (even if you're talking about wagon versions of the Passat and 9-3). It's not the fastest accelerating car but it serves a very clear purpose and it will do it well for many, many years. The Subaru is definitely the best buy on that list (and when compared to most cars).
Q: Will a 2006 Subaru forester Cargo liner fit a 2008 Subaru Forester?
A: The 2006 and 2008 are identical in interior design and dimensions. You should have no problem with the cargo liner.

Q: What is the wheel distribution for a 2008 Subaru Forester AWD? 50/50 to the wheels or 70/30? Thanks...?
Driving it in a snowstorm for the first winter .
A: You will be well equipped to deal with the snow but I hope you also have snow tires. All season tires are made of a harder rubber (for long tread life) and become hard (less pliable) at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius (or about 48 degrees Fahrenheit). Winter tires are made of a softer rubber and stay pliable at lower temperatures making traction and braking much safer. You have 50-50 power distribution. Here is a description of the safety system for the 08 Forester: Subaru Active Safety The active safety concept for the Subaru Forester combines "right size" proportions, with inherently crisp, agile driving responses and dynamic handling systems. The Forester comes equipped with the company's most advanced version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, delivering power to all four wheels simultaneously. Power sent from the Boxer Engine through a symmetrical drivetrain gives Forester superior driving performance and enhanced traction under any road condition. In addition to its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Forester features four-wheel independent suspension, handling each dip and bump independently. The low-friction design and specific spring- and shock- absorber tuning diffuse road irregularities, making the most of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive by maximizing tire contact with the road. New for the Forester this year is Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), available on all turbo models equipped with automatic transmission, such as 2.5XT Limited and Sports 2.5XT models. VDC is a highly sophisticated stability control system that actively controls the center differential's power distribution by means of a continuously variable hydraulic transfer clutch. The system distributes torque to the appropriate wheel based on input from steering wheel angle, yaw and lateral g-force sensors. It also monitors input from the ABS brake system, adjusting individual wheel braking as needed, helping to maintain vehicle control under a variety of driving conditions.
Q: Subaru Forester....is it a good first car for a new driver?
I've nailed down a good deal on a slightly used, 2008 subaru forester near me and I'm looking to buy it as a first car using the family's retired outback as a trade-in. Is it a good bet? It does have AWD and side airbags, so that can't hurt.
A: Great choice. All wheel drive, good mpg, safe, and not too fast. Should be cheap on insurance and license, too. Car and Driver magazine likes it and they only like sports cars.
Q: 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2008 subaru forester or 2008 suzuki grand vitara?
I'm looking to buy a small SUV or station wagon. I know that Toyota, honda, nissan etc make better quality vehicles, but at the same time they're also more costlier than the 3 choices i mentioned above. So to save some money, i decided to go for 1 of these 3 brands above. Will suzuki, mitsubishi or subaru prove to be reliable, tough and long lasting vehicles like toyotas and hondas or would it be a bad deal? Which would be the best out of the 3?
A: Definetely the 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara It won the consumer best buy award and was the winner of auto pacifics 2007 ideal vehicle award in the compact/SUV category. My advice is for you to take each of them for a test drive and see how you feel in each one.
Q: Whats the song in the 2008 Subaru Forester commercial? Its available on youtube.?
A: probably is
Q: Bought a 2008 Subaru Forester, used, and I notice a rust color around the seat mounts? Is this really rust?
It's in spots around the areas where the seats are. The car runs and looks great otherwise, but I've noticed this rust colored look... it almost seems like it could be sanded right off if I could get to it. It's on the areas the seats are mounted. Any ideas if this is really rust or what this is? It's only got 18,000 miles on it. Nope, no flood damage. Carfax is perfectly clear, one owner vehicle, looks and runs great.
A: it could be the primer paint used under the regular paint, these car factories keep trying to cut back on expenses of building the vehicle and maybe they don't paint the floor under the carpet where it's covered and you can't see it, I know GM did that for a few years, they didn't paint underneath the hood of the car because it was covered by the hood pad and you didn't see it so why paint it and they claimed they saved 4 or 5 cents a car by not painting that.
Q: Is this a good deal? There's a person selling their 2008 Subaru (Gold Color) Forester X 2008 with 19k miles ..
for $16,000? Good deal? Still has 2 years of factory warranty left.... Or is that overpriced?
A: Go to Kelly Blue book and look it up--enter all the options it has and look at the private party sale price.
Q: Is my 2008 Subaru putting out too much Exhaust?
It drives, runs, and seems great... but when I first start the engine there's quite a bit of exhaust that comes out of the tailpipe for the first few minutes. It's visible to the eye. Is this relatively normal for a Subaru Forester? Are Subarus known for burning oil? This is my first one of ownership.
A: White smoke would be normal condensation water burning out of the exhaust as steam. You won't see anything else on a new car because it gets burned up in the catalytic converter. Manufacturers say that a new car is not burning oil as long as it gets more than 900 miles per quart of oil.
